Bitcoin caught a strong bid on Monday after tensions in the Middle East appeared to ease — at least briefly.

The move came after President Donald Trump said the U.S. would postpone planned strikes on Iran’s infrastructure for five days, pointing to what he described as “productive” talks between the two sides.

That headline alone was enough to flip sentiment fast.

A Fast Reversal

BTC had slipped below $68,000 overnight as markets braced for escalation. Then the tone changed.

Within hours of Trump’s statement, Bitcoin pushed back above $71,000. Altcoins followed — Ether, Solana, Dogecoin, Chainlink — all up around 5%.

It was a clean, almost textbook risk-on reaction.

Everything Moved at Once

Crypto wasn’t alone.

Oil dropped sharply — WTI down around 11%, Brent about 8%. Stocks jumped, bond yields fell, and the dollar weakened. Even gold reversed earlier losses.

Markets essentially priced in one thing: less immediate risk.

That shift wasn’t subtle. It was broad.

Then the Story Started to Crack

But the move didn’t come without questions.

Not long after the rally began, Iranian media pushed back on Trump’s claims, saying there were no talks with the U.S. at all. (Reuters)

That added a layer of uncertainty.

Some of the early momentum started to look more like a knee-jerk reaction than a confirmed shift in the situation. Reports also noted that markets had already begun to fade slightly after the denial, highlighting just how fragile the bounce might be. (EV)

Liquidations and Positioning

There was also some damage under the surface.

More than $60 million in tokenized Brent futures were liquidated, mostly from traders betting on higher oil prices. That unwind likely helped accelerate the move lower in crude — and indirectly supported the broader risk rally.

Crypto-linked stocks moved higher too. Strategy gained over 3%, while Coinbase, IREN, and Galaxy Digital all added modest gains.

Still Not Full Confidence

Despite the bounce, derivatives markets aren’t fully convinced.

Bitcoin options are still skewed defensive, with puts trading at a noticeable premium to calls through June. Ether shows a similar pattern.

That usually means one thing: traders are hedging, not chasing upside.

Relief Rally — For Now

The bigger picture hasn’t really changed.

The five-day pause doesn’t resolve the conflict. Iran is still active in the region, and the denial of talks only adds to the uncertainty.

That’s why the reaction feels temporary.

Markets rallied on the idea of de-escalation — but as soon as that narrative was questioned, confidence started to wobble.

For now, this looks less like a real breakout… and more like a relief move that still needs confirmation.
